Step 1
-
Can an Awning be
fitted to your property?
Patio awnings can be fitted to most types
of property, but due to the weight of the blinds and the leverage on the
wall mounting brackets when the awning is extended, it is important the
following be taken into account.
-
Walls should be flat and clear of any
obstructions like drainpipes, and should be of a sound brick construction.
-
Ideally you should have a minimum of
five courses of brickwork above the window.
-
Thermal block walls (Celcon type) as
found on many extensions and bungalows where there is less brickwork above
the window are not suitable for large projections, the maximum we would
normally recommend is 2 metres (6ft 6"), and would probably require
special bungalow fixing brackets, this is subject to a site survey.
Step 2
-
What size should you
make your Awning?
-
The minimum width of your awning should
be the width of your window or door plus an overhang either side,
approximately 300mm (1ft) each side if possible, or round the awning width
to the nearest metre. The greater the overhang each side the better
protection you will have as the sun moves around.
-
The projection of your awning would
first depend on how good the fixing was on your wall. The projections that
are available are 1.5 metres(5ft) up to 4 metres(13ft) in half metre
increments.
Step 3
-
Choosing the right type
of Awning
Not all awnings are made the same! They
may look the same on the surface, but many awnings are poorly manufactured
using inferior castings and fittings which crack and break. Unfortunately
its the parts you can not see that cost the money to produce which make all
the difference. In recent years this problem seems to be getting worse with
cheap imports from Asia, these awnings are so poorly made with feeble arm
casting which just snap with out warning would you what your family sitting
under these! and most are fitted with polyester covers which fade to an
unrecognisable colour in a matter of months.
The awnings we sell at Worth & Company are manufactured in Germany to the
very highest of standards. The awnings are thoroughly tested before they are
released into production, to keep these standards they are continually
checked through the manufacturing process to ensure quality control. From
our experience although they are not the cheapest on the market we can
assure you that they are of the finest quality giving you many enjoyable
years of trouble free use, unlike many of their cheaper look alike
alternatives.
