The traditional box blind is still widely
used today being probably the most durable type of awning still
manufactured, with its multiple fixing points it puts less strain on the
blind box unlike the modern type of foldaway blind. At Worth Blinds we
still manufacture traditional box blinds from scratch and we can also
refurbish your existing blind when required.
The blind box which houses the roller is
constructed from timber which can be finished in either a wood stain or
painted to your facia colour, the top board is covered in a roofing felt to
help prolong its life span. The front lath is also manufactured from
timber where particular attention is paid to the front rail where we router
the facia with a decorative finish to compliment the traditional look.
The blind arms are manufactured from a
mild steel where they are skilfully formed in house to bend neatly around your facia when the
awning is retracted. The blind arms are then fitted to a pair of slide
irons which are mounted to your wall on specially made iron castings.
The traditional box blinds are extended by
a means of a blind pole, where the blind arms are then pushed up the slide
irons to give sufficient headway clearance.
Your choice of blind covering which can be
either an acrylic fabric or a reinforced PVC cover will then be hand sewn to
the roller the traditional way. This is an important part of the
process as we so often go to premises where the blinds have been recovered
by unscrupulous companies who haven't a clue how to do this, so to over come
this they either pop rivet the cover to the barrel, or we have even
seen covers nailed through the entire length of the barrel. These
processes will normally result in you having to have your blind roller
replaced due to all the rivet ends falling into the blind spring, causing it
to not function correctly plus with all the holes put through the barrel it
will weaken it dramatically.
